Happy December to you all! If you have been following my Youtube (staybeautiful84) you will know that I started a December Daily mini album! I posted a progress video and am currently uploading an updated version of my album to Youtube. I have completed up to day 13, but will hopefully catch up today. While you wait patiently for the video (I know you are all "sooo" excited to see it... well I hope that at least someone is!) here are some pictures of a few details for you to enjoy! I hope you like it!

I am done all my exams as of Saturday night! I have a busy week ahead because I have several  friends to catch up with (the blog is not the only neglected one!) and I also have to prepare for my Arizona and Disneyland trip! Can't wait!!

More Birthday Cards

Yesterday was my last day of classes! I am done my first semester of the Interior Design program! It got very bust at the end because most of our classes had final projects that were all due at the same time. I only have 2 exams to do in the next week ahead, so I feel quite a bit of relief.I am currently uploading a video to Youtube that shows many of my projects I did this semester, so I will hopefully share that here too.
For now I just have a couple birthday cards that I created last month. I hope you like them!
The studs on this card were recycled from an old belt I had.
In this card I gessoed, inked, perfect pearled, and UTEEed the dress form chipboard. I stamped the other elements and cut them out.

This was a card that I really enjoyed making because it displays my favourite colours and products!
Thanks for stopping by! I hope to be a much more loyal blogger this month than I have been in the last several!

My First Attempt at Mobile Blogging!

Hey everyone! I hope this works, but as you can see from the title I am trying to blog from my mobile app just to see if it works.
The project I wanted to share tonight is a photo display on my bedroom wall in my residence. This is a creative way to decorate when you don't want to damage your walls. I just put a small piece of sticky tack in each corner of each photo and arranged them in an appealing way. These are some of my most favourite photos of my friends, family, and travel experiences. I hope you like it! Thanks for stopping by!

Interior Design Project One

Here is my first Interior Design Project! It is for my Design One class, hope you like it!
The write up that I did to clarify my design reasoning can be read below:

Design Reasoning:
I left the exterior of the suitcase undecorated because I am a fairly simple person from an outsider’s perspective. I keep a lot of things hidden inside of me, so I designed the suitcase to have many exciting things to look at on its interior. These things are layered and some are intended to be hard to decipher which reflects a few of my personal characteristics.

I painted the interior black because it starkly contrasts the lighter exterior, just as my inner personality contrasts my outer appearance. The inside is filled with many brightly coloured images, sketches, and artifacts because I am generally a very positive and happy person.

Many of the elements may appear jumbled at first but they are actually very organized. They are grouped together in order of subject, but are in no particular order. This accurately demonstrates that some aspects of my life are perfectly in place while other things are in disorder.

I used mostly photographs to visually represent aspects of my life because photography is very important to me. The photos that I have taken are very precious to me. I think it is important to capture everyday moments so that I never forget them. I remember almost every story behind each picture. They evoke such powerful memories that I can almost see, hear, smell, and touch the sights or experiences.

Suitcase:
Past: Travel has been a huge influence on my life. It has opened my eyes to the world; I am more aware of other cultures, backgrounds, and beliefs that people have and I respect their differences. I feel as though I appreciate the world around me even more now.

Present: I have recently moved out on my own and it symbolizes this new experience. I feel as if I am “living out of a suitcase” in a way because I have not yet found where I belong in the world. My parent’s house still feels like home, yet sometimes I feel like a guest there too. Half of my stuff is still there and the other half is with me. My possessions are divided just like I am.

Future: The suitcase also symbolizes the future because I have a long journey ahead of me. I will likely move several more times, do some more traveling, and hopefully find my place in the world so that I can unpack for good.

Main Photo:
I took this photo on a gorgeous summer day in 2011. I was driving home down our gravel road when I noticed how beautifully green the grass was, how blue the sky was, and how perfectly fluffy the clouds were. I pulled over to snap a few pictures and managed to capture this moment. I think this image perfectly represents me because when I look at it I feel at home. I think of this picture every time I drive down our road. Its bright colours suit my personality and make me feel happy. No matter where I am I can always look up and see the same sky that floats over the place where I belong: my home.

 Clover Photo:
I took this photo this summer out behind my house in the field. It has a similar meaning to me as my main photo. I think of my last summer at home, living life to its fullest, living in the moment, and taking time to notice even the tiniest of things. Again, I love the bright colours and it makes me feel very happy.

Background:
I used copies of letters I have written to myself as well as letters other people have written to me. All of them play a very significant role in my past and present. They are intended to be illegible so that only I know what they say. There are also many things layered on top of them because I have many aspects to my personality, all of which play off of one another.

Tiger Postcard:
This is an image of my favourite tiger at the Calgary Zoo. Khasam passed away in 2004 from terminal cancer. I spent countless hours prior to this outside of his enclosure watching him closely. He taught me so much about the world that I will never forget.

Photo Booth Images:
All of these image strips were taken over the course of my middle and high school years. They show the differences and similarities in my group of friends over the years. Some friends I came to know through school activities and sports, while others I have known all my life and am still close with today. My friends have always and will always be very important to my identity.

New York Times Square Painting:
This is a 4’x4’ mural that I painted at the end of grade 12. It is now hanging in my high school and I feel as if it was the perfect way to leave my mark on something that was a huge part of my life. In grade 10 I went on a school trip to New York City and was very inspired. This painting reveals some social and political issues that I have witnessed, not only in New York, but here in Alberta too. I used many printed images and magazine-cut words to demonstrate my understanding of these issues. Most of the words that I have used in this project have been cut from magazines or ads, which symbolizes my love of this painting. I feel like this work accurately displays my critical outlook on the world that is all around us.

My Parents and My Relationship:
My boyfriend has been one of the largest influences in my life over the last 2+ years. He has brought me closer to the people and things that I already loved and has introduced me to many more people who I now consider my second family. Through images, I have compared our relationship to the relationship that my parents have. I admire them so much and I hope that Andrew and I will always have that same bond.

Goals:
I have used some images and words that symbolize my admittance into the Interior Design program. This has been my main goal over the last year and now that I am finally here, I am preparing to set some new goals. I hope to someday be a residential designer. I also have hopes to get married and start a family, but not for several years. I have always known exactly what I wanted, but in the last few years all of my plans have changed. I am very happy with where I am in life and I can’t wait to see what comes next.

Though I have explained several aspects of this project, I feel like there is so much more that I cannot put into words. Much of it is intended to be interpreted, but all of it was done with complete intention. I hope this write up has made my thought process clearer and easier to understand.

Five-Oh Milestone

Hey blog readers! Today I have 2 cards to share with you! They are both 50th birthday cards. The first I created last weekend and the second is a little blast from the past! Hope you enjoy!
This one is for a close family friend who is turning 50 next weekend! I used one of my clay roses (there is a tutorial for it on my youtube channel) and I also created a clay medallion using a Tim Holtz stamp. The flower is also hand made using the TH flower die. I sprayed and inked the newsprint pattern paper.

This card I created for my mom almost 2 years ago (uh oh, now you all know her age!). I photographed it and set it up in a blog post but never got around to posting it. I used a cuttlebug folder on the background, a TH film strip die, some heat embossed numbers, and lots of inking!

Thanks for visiting today! I got some of my school projects back so keep your eyes open for those asap!

Little Twins!

Back in the summer my cousin and his wife had 2 little twin boys!We are so incredibly happy for them, especially considering these are the first grandchildren for my grandparents. I made these awhile back and mailed them off, but I forgot to post the pictures I took of them! Hope you enjoy!
I printed the words "congratulations grandma" on the computer. To get it printed exactly how I want I first print a test copy on regular paper then take my smaller piece of cardstock, temporarily adhere it to the printer paper, and print once more.

For each of the monkeys on both cards I used a small cuttlebug die and paper pieced them. I used the same printing technique on the second card too.
I am still crazy busy with school but hopefully I will work in some crafting time! i also cant wait to share some of the numerous school projects I have submitted. I am just waiting patiently to get them back!
Also, sorry for any formatting issues, I am trying to get used to the new Blogger set up...

Polymer Clay Dragon Tutorial and UPDATE!

I hope you all have had a smooth transition back into school days (whether you are going back yourself or sending the kids back!). I sure know how crazy September can be! My first month has literally flown by! Anyway, here is a video I posted on youtube a bit ago and never got posted here! Sorry to my poor neglected blog... and its readers! But I hope you like this cute little clay dragon!

So now for the life updates to those of you who are interested and still reading! My program has gotten really busy and I haven't had time to create anything non school related. This week I have 2 midterms (already! Eek! First one tomorrow!) and 3 projects that are due! Hopefully I will survive till Friday because then for Thanksgiving (yes, in Canada) I am going camping! Can't wait!

Hopefully I will get around to sharing some of my completed and upcoming school projects. I have a very interesting and personal project that I created inside of a vintage suitcase! I have already handed it in and only have bad quality pictures of it on my cell phone, but I will take some better ones to share when I get it back. I also have a couple more to complete that will be fun to share (all of our projects are really fun and creative, I love my program!).

This weekend I got to go on an art walk around town. We visited about 10 people's houses and got to see some of their amazing creations and even some in-home studios! I am so inspired, but have no time to create anything right now! Can't wait till I do! Sometimes I wish I could just create some massive mixed media canvases and maybe even sell them! Just dreaming.. :)

Some luck and prayers would be greatly appreciated for the week ahead! I hope you all have a wonderful one! Thank you all for visiting, watching, and reading!

Residence!

I successfully moved into my dorm room yesterday! I have 3 other roommates, but each of us have our own bedrooms! We share the kitchen, living area and 2 full bathrooms. We still have a lot of stuff to sort out and food to buy, but all is going well so far! I will have to get used to the city noises as I am used to sleeping in complete silence! Anyway, here are some pictures!
Above is a view of my bedroom. We are on the ground floor so unfortunately I don't have much for privacy. Luckily I do have a blind though!
This is easily the biggest closet I have ever had! My first walk-in, yay!
Here is my current desk setup and yes, my blog is open on my laptop!
This is our kitchen and I love the blue wall!
Our living room is a bit boring right now but hopefully we can find ways to decorate. If you have any tips for decorating rentals I would love to hear them! we cannot put any holes in the walls so it might be a bit of a challenge!
Thanks for reading! Hope you are having a wonderful long weekend!

Clover Layout

It has been much too long since I have created a Scrapbook layout! As I had mentioned before, I finally got around too it a couple days ago! Here is what I came up with, hope you like it!
I recorded a video talking about this layout and I will be uploading it to youtube soon. For now, I will give you a bit of a brief explanation. I used Pink Paisley's "Daily Junque" collection for this. I cut down the 12x12 piece, distressed the edges, inked then with black, and layered it on white cardstock.
This is the image I used, it is one of my favourite photos that I have taken this season. I would appreciate it if you do not replicate this image for personal or any other use.
The big blue flower is from Drew's Etsy shop (Discount Charms). I love his products! I also added some stitching, found coupons, a found clothing tag, paper tape, and an envelope die-cut. The blue splatters in the background were created using Lindy's Stamp Gang Starburst Spray in Delphinium Turquoise.
I cut this bird and sentiment from the same paper but on the reverse side. I stitched across to add interest.
Here is a close up of the distressed edges and some added stitching. I hope you liked this project! Please let me know if you have any comments, suggestions, or requests, as your feedback is greatly appreciated! I hope you have a great weekend! I will be moving into residence on Sunday, can't wait!

Polymer Clay Charm Update Video!

Here is my most recent charm update! I have been doing a lot of clay creations lately, mostly because they are fast, easy and fun. I don't have to plan anything, print any photos, find coordinating embellishments (as you do in scrapbooking) but I have truly missed those things! I actually did a layout today that I will be sharing soon. It was nice to get back into it and I hope I have a chance to do more very soon! For now I hope you enjoy the clay charms.

The Great Hail of 2012

Sorry for my absence! I'm sure you all know how life can get crazy. This will mainly be an updating post so maybe you can begin to understand my circumstances.
I just finished my full time job for the summer and now have a couple weeks before school starts to just relax. I went camping this weekend near Banff, Alberta and had a great time! Hopefully I will have some time to post some pictures and videos of crafting that I haven't had a chance to share. I still have a lot to do to get ready to move into residence though.
Last week we got hit by some crazy hail. I have never seen nor experienced anything of this magnitude before. The dark storm moved in very quickly at about 3:30 PM on August 14th 2012. We live just South of Strathmore, Alberta and apparently this is where the storm hit the hardest. Luckily we managed to get everyone (including our pets) safely in the house. As you can see, the house did take quite a beating. The siding is completely smashed down to the ply-wood, fascia is torn off, window screens are all torn, and one window on the garage was broken. All of the trees in the area were stripped of leaves and even bark. During clean up, we have come across over 10 dead birds. We are grateful that the result of this storm was not more devastating as we are all safe.

The garden is completely destroyed but luckily most above-ground plants were done and the blow-ground stuff can still be saved. Our raspberry patches and tress were not so lucky.

The trees took a terrible beating. Lots had their bark stripped right off. We tried to put wound sealant on most of them but the damage may be to great to save them. All we can do is hope that they will survive the winter.
In better news, I will hopefully be posting a charm update on youtube soon as it is currently uploading. I have had trouble with this video so hopefully it works this time! Keep your eyes peeled!
